Last July 10 saw the gorgeous opening ceremony of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. Millions in the Americas and world witnessed it through TV and Internet. The Games organizers in cooperation of the Cirque de Soleil put up a colourful ceremony unprecedented in Canada. This 17th Pan Am Games has more than 6,000 athletes from 41 countries of both the North and South Americas.
The first Pan Am Games, with multi-sports events, was held in Buenos Aires of Argentina in 1951. From then on it is being held in every four years. Previously Canada hosted two such Games -- one in 1967 in Winnipeg and the other in 1999 in Manitoba.
