The Pope's press office announced that Jozef Wesolowski, former Vatican ambassador (in the Catholic Church parlance, called Apostolic Nuncio) to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, has been placed under house arrest as he is under investigation for pedophilia. He is accused of having paid for sex with minor boys during his ambassadorship in that country.

Polish citizen Jozef Wesolowski, ordained by late Pope John Paul II, was laicized by Pope Francis early this year. He is the highest ranking Vatican official being investigated by for crimes against minors.
