Pope Francis: Christians Should Apologize to Gays and Lesbians for Ill Treatment

Pope Francis, after completing his Apostolic Voyage to Armenia on June 24 to 26, spoke on various topics and issues raised by accompanying journalists in his returning plane, reports News.va.

He spoke on the Armenian genocide, Church's relation with the gay men and women (homosexuals), Britain's exit vote for leaving the European Union, some religious and ecumenical issues, women deacons, and more.

Regarding the gay people, the pope remarked that the Church should apologize to them and ask forgiveness for offending them in different ways. Besides, he also said that the Church should ask forgiveness of other groups hurt by Christians, who do not live up to the Gospel.

Pope Francis Makes Provision for Removing Bishops Who Fail to Act on Clergy Sex Abuse

Pope Francis on June 4 introduced a statute that will make it easier for the Vatican to remove bishops who fail to take appropriate action on sex-abusive priests under their care. This statute will be effective from September 5 this year. 

Clergy sex abuse, especially against children, is present in all the continents of the world. A section of the Catholic priests, forgetting their life of sexual chastity, engage in this heinous crime causing irreparable moral, mental and psychological damage to the underage boys and girls. The Catholic Church as a whole failed miserably in taking action against the guilty priests as well as in providing moral, psychological, and other support to their victims. Now Pope Francis is trying to do more in this field than his predecessors.

Sunil Gomes, A Catholic Grocer, Killed in His Store in Bonpara, Bangladesh

Sunil Gomes, 71, a Roman Catholic village grocer, was hacked to death recently in broad daylight in his shop at Bonpara Bazar of Natore District, north-west of Bangladesh. The grocery store was near the local Catholic church of Bonpara in the Diocese of Rajshahi. According to news reports, the Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for this murder. 

Sunil's younger brother, Father Proshanto Gomes, working in the Diocese of Dinajpur, expressed his surprise and anguish at this brutal killing. He said that his brother was a simple villager with no enemies. 
 
This hacking death resembles the earlier IS-claimed killings in different parts of Bangladesh.


Hours earlier, Islamic militants shot the wife of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Chittagong where he was zealously fighting Islamic terrorism.
